Your voice on diversity

In our survey of 500 people, we explored how Birmingham’s new cultural plans could better reflect the city’s rich diversity. Respondents emphasised the importance of inclusive decision-making, greater support for grassroots initiatives, and removing financial and logistical barriers. They called for cultural programming to celebrate all heritages year-round, avoiding tokenism, and for increased youth engagement through arts education. Public spaces should be repurposed for accessible cultural activities, and collaboration between institutions and community groups should be prioritised. By promoting cultural heritage and integrating the arts into wider city strategies, Birmingham can foster a vibrant, inclusive culture that represents and benefits all.
