Create Central’s BFI Skills Accelerator

The Create Central British Film Institute (BFI) Skills Accelerator is aimed at increasing employment opportunities for a wide range of production crew roles from underrepresented backgrounds in the West Midlands screen industries. By addressing barriers to entry and fostering an inclusive approach, the programme is driving tangible change in the region’s creative sector.

Led by Create Central, the programme unites a network of training providers and industry partners, including major players like the BBC, Channel 4, ITV, and YouTube. These collaborators ensure that the skills training aligns with the latest industry needs and investment priorities. Training providers work closely with Create Central to develop course materials informed by market intelligence from its members and partners, so participants gain relevant and in-demand skills.

Made possible by the BFI awarding funds from the National Lottery, a key feature of the Skills Accelerator is its targeted outreach and engagement programme. Delivered by specialist marketing and events teams, this programme actively encourages applications from underrepresented communities. Additionally, bespoke industry events provide participants with valuable networking opportunities, connecting them directly with employers in the West Midlands screen industries.
